Character Information
Name: Ethan Heart
Canon: Pokemon HGSS
Canon Point: Collected all 16 badges from the Kanto/Johto area, but yet to defeat the Elite Four for the second time.
Age: 14
Gender: Male
History: Ethan grew up in New Bark Town, Johto, as a sort of country bumpkin without much culture as a child. His interest in Pokemon was sparked by stories his mother would read to him and his best friend, a girl named Lyra, who lived next door and had a companion Marill. When the Pokemon Professor Elm built his lab in town, Ethan's interest in Pokemon only increased. He'd often chat with the professor and his assistants whenever he could, and their trust in his good nature and eagerness made him a candidate to choose a starter partner once he was ten.
At age ten, he chose a female Totodile to be his first Pokemon, and went out on an errand run for Professor Elm to see about a rare Pokemon egg. After completing this task and meeting another Professor, Oak, he was given a Pokedex and encouraged to start his journey to collect Pokemon and Gym Badges. At this time, another boy Ethan's age had stolen one of the remaining starters from Professor Elm. Ethan battled the boy and unwittingly let him escape. The boy had dropped his trainer card, and while Ethan had the opportunity to see the name on it, simply didn't. When questioned by the police on the matter, he told them the trainer card look blank and the officer wrote 'Blank' down as if that was the other boy's name. Ethan has called his rival this ever since.
His journey since has gone relatively smoothly. He hasn't caught too many Pokemon, only those he really needed or could trade for a breed he wanted. The only thing he seems really inclined to collect is Apricorns to be turned into specialized Pokeballs. He didn't hesitate to foil Team Rocket's plans in the region, collect all sixteen badges, and capture Lugia with a Dive Ball. He hasn't challenged the Elite Four for the second time, though he did challenge the former champion Red on top of Mt. Silver. He didn't win, but he's still determined!
Personality: Ethan is a talkative, outgoing, and polite young man. Growing up with a single mother, he's been raised to always be a gentlemen and do the right thing. Unlike most boy's his age, he's a total neat freak and will fuss until everything is just right. While this makes him come off a bit strange in some situations, his battle methods mirror this meticulous nature and makes him quite the difficult opponent.
He also lacks a swelled ego, despite his accomplishments as a trainer. In defeat and victory, he may be outwardly happy or disappointed with an outcome, but he always responds with humility foremost. This humble nature does lead to him being a bit oblivious, and it's not hard for him to miss sarcasm or to not recognize when someone might be mocking him. If he does catch on to someone else's bad attitude, he might respond with some stubbornness, but he much prefers to drown those people in niceness than respond negatively.
Ethan's real key to success is his vast determination. Once he sets out to do something, he will get it done, no matter what it takes. This being said, he definitively has a 'slow and steady' method to accomplishing his goals. The majority of his Pokemon were trained for high defensive stats, even the ones not necessarily meant for long battles, like his Feraligatr or Houndoom. He's also very sentimental, to a point he might be considered a bit cowardly when it comes to change. He caught Lugia, but refuses to swap out a member of his old, steady team for the legendary. He could likely defeat his idol Red with it's power, but he'd rather do it by his own merit.
I would like to mention that Ethan's probably never been alone in his life. He's always lived at home with his Mother or had Pokemon companions at his side-- not to mention his friendship with Lyra and other trainer's he shared his Pokegear number with. In short, he's going to have quite the culture shock of having to stay in a room alone, with no contact with family or pets. Ethan will certainly be doing everything in his power to fend off the inevitable loneliness of being away from home.
Abilities Information
Fighter or Sacrifice?: Sacrifice. Ethan's good at sizing up a situation and formulating a plan for each battle. This can take time and can make it difficult for him to switch gears, however. Despite being of a lankier build, he has good stamina and endurance from traveling.
Canon abilities: Running and biking long distances! But, really, nothing special.
Name: Speechless, maybe? (Though all Pokemon games have 'a silent protag' in a way, Ethan's actually quite extroverted so it's ironic in that way.) If not, pick away!
Zero Candidate?: Don't think so.
Samples
First Person: This is... a forest? Wait... wait, wait, wait a second here..! I was just sleeping on the train from Saffron into Goldenrod. I'd only just closed my eyes, I thought, and now... huh.
Oh! Was that a person ahead?
"Oh, uhm, Mister, or sir or, oh, ma'am? Could yah maybe tell me where I am? I think I'm a bit lost here."
Third Person: The train ride had lulled Ethan to sleep. It wasn't a long trip, the magnet train being able to travel from Saffron to Goldenrod incredibly quick, but Ethan couldn't resist closing his eyes.
Unfortunately, when he blinks himself awake, he's not in the train. He was leaned up against a tree trunk in some forest, the bark against his face eventually itching him awake. He'll blink and look around, scrambling to stand up once he realized the situation was wrong. Looking around, and trying to stay calm and reason how this happened, he'll take his bag in his hand before heading forward. He didn't even notice his new appendages, too confused to be all that self aware.
Anything Else? Nope!
